UPS Strikes a Deal, Not a Strike: Packages Chill as Union Heats Up the Wage

You know what they say about business...

UPS and the Teamsters union had a showdown...

A potential clash of the titans that could've made your holiday deliveries look like a Christmas nightmare!

But fear not...

They shook on a tentative agreement yesterday that turned the threat of a disastrous strike into a Christmas miracle!

Just imagine...

Unionized UPSniks were ready to drop their scanners and walk out next Tuesday...

All of this as their current contract with the world’s largest package delivery service was set to expire...

Talk about a cliffhanger!

A 10-day work stoppage could’ve drained a whopping ~$7 billion from the US economy!

That's like trying to sell a product with a broken sales funnel!

But guess what...

They resolved their differences, mainly over wages for part-time workers...

It's like when we finally agreed on the commission structure for our part-time sales reps!

If union members ratify what the Teamsters called...

“The BEST contract in the history of UPS,” they’ll score some substantial wins…

All current workers will get a pay bump of $2.75 an hour this year, and more raises in the future...

Just like our annual bonuses for crushing those sales targets!

Existing part-timers will start receiving a minimum hourly pay of $21...

No more of that $15.50 an hour!

And the cherry on top?

Drivers will be guaranteed AC in their vehicles...

No more sweltering in those notoriously sultry delivery vans!

It's like upgrading your old, slow computer to the latest, fastest model!

In return, UPS avoids a labor action that could've crushed business...

Just like that 15-day strike in 1997 that cost them $850 million!

Negotiate, don't detonate!

That's right.

It's all about TIMING.

You know, like a perfectly timed joke.

Or a well-executed magic trick.

Timing. Is. EVERYTHING.

Imagine this...

You're at a party.

You spot someone you'd like to know better.

Do you rush over and propose marriage?

NO!

That would be CRAZY.

You start with a HELLO.

You share a LAUGH.

You find COMMON GROUND.

You build a RELATIONSHIP.

THEN... and only THEN...

You ask them to dance.

That's how sales works, my friends.

Just like ROMANCE.

It's all about the TIMING.

You need to WARM them up.

Get them CURIOUS.

Make them WANT what you've got.

THEN you ask for the sale.

And not a moment before.

So, remember...

Don't be the overeager suitor at the party.

Play it COOL.

Know your TIMING.

And make that SALE!

Because the best salespeople...

They're not just selling.

They're DANCING.
