There I was, an early startup employee at Outreach trying to execute cross-functional plans across multiple departments.

The thing is, at the time I was deciding whether to specialize in 1 skill or be an A+ generalist and take on many different roles.

The big problem was that you are suppose to stay in a similar department to get a "promotion". That meant I was sacrificing a potential title instead of learning different areas of the business, which limited my ability to learn multiple skillsets.

Then, as if by chance, something amazing happened...

I read a quote from Chase Jarvis that said, "Specialization is for insects".

This made me think, accelerating revenue doesn't take a skill from 1 area of the business.

Instantly it became crystal clear to me how to accelerate revenue takes alignment from multiple departments because they all have to be aligned around a common goal.

My plan was to start working in departments that would teach me the skills necessary to create a true revenue efficient machine…

So I started studying the big-picture view of how every department supports revenue generation. But I didn’t stop there.

I then took jobs in multiple departments of a Unicorn startup.

After that, I documented all the tactics & tricks that I've learned (I’ve realized that sharing what I’m doing helps me learn as well).

Building on that success, I decided to create this newsletter that would give the do-ers the tactics used to scale a software business.

I call it “Revenue Surfing”.

With Revenue Surfing I can now share the knowledge I've learned in taking a company from $1M to $100M in 5 years.

And that's why I'm so excited to share this with you so you can get these types of results too 🤙
